We’re really excited to have launched TVO’s Public Archive – a free online resource that offers Ontarians access to historic TVO content from the past four decades. As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we thought it a fitting time to unlock this amazing educational resource that stands the test of time. If you’re interested in great Canadian authors, big thinkers, politics or science and technology then there’s something for you in the Public Archive.

We’re making this content available to all Ontarians because we see the tremendous value in preserving and sharing Ontario’s rich cultural history. Beyond nostalgia, we’re making available archival content that enhances science, math and technology literacy. We’re also introducing a new Think Again podcast series which re-cuts and re-imagines archival footage to shed light on important themes throughout recent history. Topics like censorship, water rights, space travel and scientific advancements.

Our hope is that TVO’s Public Archive will be used by students, teachers and anyone looking for smart programming. It’s bound to spark curiosity and to provide intelligent and informed context on a wide spectrum of topics. For instance, if you choose the Haiti playlist you’ll be able to view a series of interviews that chronicle the political and social history of the country. It’s a fascinating look at the evolution of Haitian history and it provides important context for understanding the current situation in Haiti.

We’ll continue to add content to the site but we can only do so with the support of donors. We believe that TVO’s Public Archive is an important contribution to intelligent debate in Ontario and we hope that it’s something you feel strongly about as well.
