Recognizing the public concern regarding the game Pipe Trouble, TVO made the decision on March 22 to appoint two individuals of experience and independent standing to review the game in the context of TVO’s Programming Standards. TVO confirms that Trina McQueen and Rita Cugini have agreed to conduct the independent review.
Trina McQueen is an Adjunct Professor in the Arts and Media department of the Schulich School of Business at York University. She is a veteran broadcaster and journalist who has held senior management positions in public and private broadcasting. She has been President and COO of CTV Inc., founding President of the Discovery Channel and head of news, current affairs and Newsworld at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Rita Cugini was the Ontario Regional Commissioner at the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) from 2005 to 2012. She is an independent consultant to media companies and investment firms on the Canadian broadcasting framework. Her clients include the Competition Bureau of Canada, Blue Ant Media, Guidepoint Global and Gerson Lehrman Group. She is the former VP of Public and Governmental Affairs at Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc.
Ms. McQueen and Ms. Cugini will prepare a report for TVO’s Board of Directors by the end of April.
