“The TV represents the last screen in our homes to be connected to the Internet.” Bob Tarle, Innovation Program Manager, TVO
|Connected TV brings the experience of the Internet to your TV screen. As the Internet plays a growing role in people’s lives there’s more demand for content that can live on the web and be viewed on your home TV screen. Donor support has allowed TVO to develop new and innovative connected TV apps for Boxee and Yahoo! TV that bring the Internet to the traditional TV screen. Boxee is the newly released set top box which allows the user to connect their TV to the internet. TVO has released three Boxee apps, including:
In addition to the three new apps, the Boxee TV Show Library also features episodes of The Agenda with Steve Paikin. The Yahoo! TV widget engine is built into several new TVs at the point of manufacturing and allows for web content to be viewed on the TV screen. Yahoo! TV now features three TVO widgets, including:
All TVOKids content, including Gisèle’s Big Backyard and The Space, is teacher tested and developed in conjunction with TVO’s in-house educational specialist. And connected TV gives us another platform to reach Ontarians with our trusted educational resources. We’re taking existing content developed in-house for TV and giving it a new audience online. As Lisa de Wilde, TVO’s CEO says “connected TV, whether it’s through Boxee or Yahoo! TV, is part of TVO’s ongoing commitment to digital innovation and allows us to reach new audiences in new ways.” We’re exciting to part of connected TV and we need donor support to continue to maintain and grow our presence on this exciting new platform.
