In May TVOKids hosts shared their love of reading with thousands of young students at the annual Forest of Reading awards ceremony at the Harbourfront Centre for the Arts in Toronto.

Forest of Reading is the Ontario Library Association’s literacy initiative and is the largest children’s literary event in Canada. It brings school-aged children together for two days of awards ceremonies, readings, fun workshops and author signings – all to celebrate the love of reading.

TVOKids hosts Drew and Kara hosted the Blue Spruce Awards ceremony where a group of enthusiastic kids from Kindergarten to Grade 3 cheered loudly for their favourite authors. The winner was Dave Whamond, author and illustrator of My Think-A-Ma-Jink.

Drew and Kara also hosted the Silver Birch Fiction Awards where students from Grades 4-6 selected Kevin Sylvester, author of Neil Flambe and the Marco Polo Murders (and former guest on TVOKids’ The Space) as the winner.

TVOKids and TVOKids hosts are longtime champions of reading, writing and literacy and Drew and Kara were thrilled to take part in this important event.

One of the ways that TVOKids nurtures the love of reading is through its literacy themed programming including the popular tales of Tumbletown Reads; and events that promote reading such as  Read With Gisèle.

With help from our generous donors, TVOKids will be able to offer more literacy themed programming and community events that nurture the love of reading in kids.
