Steve Paikin, anchor and senior editor of TVO’s flagship current affairs program, The Agenda with Steve Paikin, will be awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubliee Medal today by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. The medals were established to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne, and are presented to celebrate the tremendous achievements and contributions Canadians have made to their country.
Steve Paikin has been invariably described as insatiably curious, always prepared, and one of the most intelligent and respected interviewers and moderators on Canadian television. In nearly 30 years in the business, he has built a sterling reputation as an eminently fair journalist and has moderated the past three federal and two Ontario election debates.
Through the program bearing his name, The Agenda with Steve Paikin, he has helped to elevate the level of conversation in Canada about the issues that matter to its citizens. From politics, to religion and culture, science and technology, the economy, the environment and more no topic is too complex and each topic is thoroughly explored and debated. Steve is at the center of those discussions skillfully keeping the conversation on track, providing balance, and asking the questions that get at the heart of the issue.
2012 will mark Steve’s 20th year hosting TVO’s current affairs programming. Earlier in his career, Steve was a host and correspondent for CBC News and a reporter for the Hamilton Spectator among others.
Steve has also authored four books including The New Game, Public Triumph, Private Tragedy: The Double Life of John P. Robarts, The Life: The Seductive Call of Politics and The Dark Side: The Personal Price of a Political Life.
